I really believe that the business of the lawyer is to make the American system of government work for individuals and small businesses. Every day I feel the keen importance of getting things right for my clients, because if I don't do my job, the system does not work for them as it is meant to.For the past several years, I've tried to cultivate a highly-specialized practice in immigration law, which is tremendously rewarding work. My particular expertise is in representing individuals who require deportation defense, or immigration court defense. It is an amazing line of work, trying to unite and keep families together, and trying to support the immigrant dream which has been so much a part of the larger American dream throughout our 250-year history. In addition to my work with immigrants, I have had substantial experience defending the civil rights of various clients, in federal and state court. I consider this work to be an extension of my love of the law and of the Constitution. The courts and the Constitution are the last lines of defense against tyranny in our society, and I feel privileged to fight, along with others, in these lines. The same passions that led me to immigration law also drive my work in criminal law. In that realm, it is my mission to make sure that the liberty of individuals is protected to the fullest extent possible from the strong hand of government. Quite frankly, it is very concerning how often individuals find themselves charged with crimes they did not commit, or find themselves overcharged far beyond their actual guilt.Just as it is gratifying to help immigrants achieve the American dream, it is also a privilege to celebrate with men and women when we obtain verdicts in criminal court that preserve individuals' liberty. Finally, I have also developed substantial experience in litigating appeals. Making sure that judicial decisions that affect the lives and fortunes and futures of my clients come out right has been a passion of mine since I was first exposed to appellate work during law school as an extern at the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.I truly love what I do... I feel like I become a temporary member of my clients' families when I take on a case, and a day never passes in which I do not feel like my work has tremendous importance and meaning. It can make for a lot of stress, but it's good stress! I'll be trying to fight the good fight for the rest of my life. Thanks for reading!
