Tim Mahoney has been providing legal services in Austin, Texas since 1992, after attending law school at the South Texas College of Law in Houston, and the University of Texas at Austin. He completed a degree in Humanities from the University of Texas in 1978, and in 1982 he received a master’s degree from the LBJ College of Public Affairs. His journalism skills have won him a number of national awards for articles written in the Texas Observer.Tim has always viewed himself as a community lawyer. Building structures for community cooperation and consensus have been among his longtime interests, and community education has been his passion. He served as an Austin Community College Board Trustee, Place I, from May of 2008 until the end of 2014. For the last 30 years, Tim has worked with other community leaders to find ways to empower local communities. That continuing effort has included neighborhood-based capacity-building training programs, including the 2007 Neighborhood Planning Conference at Austin Community College’s Eastview Campus. The two oldest are married; one lives in Austin, Texas, and the other in Asheville, North Carolina. The two youngest have attended AISD schools, but now are persuing their advanced degrees.
