Our history

In 1998, we had a website about legal topics. Through the website, a sovereign wealth fund contacted us. They wanted to hire us as lawyers to advise them on the purchase of a company. OMG! We realized that the Internet would change the delivery of legal services.

In 1998, we created elAbogado.com.

A simple list of lawyers sorted by cities or towns.

Incorporated elAbogado into Derecho.com as a side project in 2000.

Within the company Derecho.com, we maintain the website of elAbogado. Registration was free.

2002

We started receiving inquiries from lawyers who wanted to advertise on elAbogado. We decided to implement an annual fee for registration.

In 2008, we reached 300 customers.

We had more than 300 clients. We surpassed the number of 300 clients subscribed to elAbogado.

In 2010, elAbogado Directories, S.L. was founded.

Spin-off. We provided elAbogado with our own resources by creating a company to drive the business. The investors are Jurisweb Interactiva, S.L. (Derecho.com), and seed investors.

2012 elAbogado USA

We opened elAbogado USA to start generating content and lay the foundation for online positioning.

In 2013, Cabiedes & Partners invested in elAbogado.

We brought in a financial partner. The renowned investment fund Cabiedes & Partners invested in elAbogado to accelerate growth.

2015 Change of business model. Pay per Lead (PPL).

As leaders in our industry, we believe in maximizing the business by transitioning from a fixed annual fee (pay to be present) to only paying for potential clients (pay per lead).

2015: First versions of bid automation technology

We created the first version of the foundational technology for algorithmic model-based automation.

In 2016, we presented at CodeX - Stanford University.

elAbogado was invited to CodeX - The Stanford University Center for Legal Informatics to present the project.

In 2017, we launched LIQS™ and SLAB™.

Launched the first version of the Lead Instant Qualifier System, LIQS™, and Smart Lead Automated Bidding, SLAB™, technology. This technology allows us to continue leading our market.

Received the Legaltech Innovation Award in 2018.

The book Research Handbook on Big Data Law, a global reference in the legal tech and big data field, is published. elAbogado is invited as a case study for the application of these technologies

2022: Over 1,000,000 cases managed.
